| Fonts used in manga Manga is Japanese comic books which is published in Japan in Japanese language. Scanlators and authentic companies like Viz comics publish those mangas in English for the rest of the world to read and enjoy the manga. As a reader of manga, i think many of you are interested about the fonts that are used in the English version of the mangas. Many think that Scnalations use Comic Sans MS as it is the font in their pc that resembles the font of a manga. But in reality no scanlations, good scanlations never use Comic sans MS Manga scanlators use a lot of, hundreds of different fonts. For each expression, each situation, each type of voice sometimes for a particular character and for each manga, the scanlators use a different font. Here are some of the fonts which is used in the majority of manga. CC Wild Words: Regular-- normal text, italic-- thoughts, bold italic---yell/ scream

CC Comicrazy: Regualar-- box/normal text
Mouth Breather BB: Bold/ Regular--suprised/ scared/ evil text There are many more fonts (hundreds more) used for different mangas. The typesetters are free to chose the font they like for the text, they chose the font that'll look best for different types of text. So, the job of the typesetter may seem easy but they have more duties: chosing font, centering the text, chosing font size. Also doing the same copy paste, selecting font size in every page of a 25+ page manga chapter is quite boring. As you can see chosing a suitable font is difficult alone. So in order to save time, scanlators chose a set of fonts beforehand for all the possible text types. Many people, most people join the scanlation process by first appling as typesetter. But they can not figure out which font to chose. The sole reason for this post is to teach those people interested in manga scanlation about the fonts so that they don't have to go through the trouble i enjoyed! p.s. this post will be updated with new fonts are there are many more left, so keep an eye out. Also because of some technical problems some fonts can't be shown in their original from like: Cooper Std and Zap Raygun V2.0 | |
